Exotic Dance

The roots of exotic dance go far beyond shaking your hips and taking your clothes off. There is a more seductive property, which is an art to pull off. You must have the ability to enthrall your audience with something new. In different parts of the world the terminology has different meanings. Just as it might if you were to ask different people. The term exotic is often confused with the term erotic.

The meaning of exotic is something that is unusual or something out of the ordinary. Today, we use exotic dance as a euphemism for erotic dance. Though the western world makes it erotic in nature, you may also use it to refer to rare and dying forms of dancing such as the shaman, hula, and whirling dervishes.

There was a woman who was well known for her type of exotic dancing. Her name was, Margaretha Gertruda (Grietje) Zelle also known as Mata Hati. She had the ability to captivate her audiences with her seductive dance, openly flaunting her body when it was not widely accepted. While she was one of the first to make exotic dance acceptable, we can only see glimpses of her dance in the modern day.

Like many things today the meaning of exotic dance has been corrupted. It is still a form of dance that is exotic in nature but with so many exotic dancing clubs, the meaning of something rarely seen is not present. Almost every city or major highway has what they call "exotic clubs" but I fear they have buried the true meaning of the word long ago.
